Performance Art

Today, I was kind of surprised by how many people stopped and waved and took pictures. (Btw, if you do take pics, please post them on Instagram and tag me! https://www.instagram.com/s.e.campbell.art/ ) It was SO rainy and windy out. So thank you, people! You inspire me, and that's part of why I paint in the window.
I also see it as a kind of performance art. Yes, art and artists are all over the internet, and our work is carefully curated for maximum enjoyment. I think why people stop is because they aren't used to that lack of curation, and a lot of people haven't ever seen someone paint in real life. But also, it takes guts to paint like this. 90% of the time, I get a thumbs up. 10% of the time, people scoff. Does it sting a little bit? Of course, but I expect it. If anything, it challenges me to work a little harder.
Because I see it as performance art, I've decided to make it a little more obvious. I've started dressing up a little bit to paint, and it's nice because it feels like getting ready for work. I'm also going to make the studio a little more decorative. It's almost Halloween, so that will be my first theme. I'm sure my landlords will love it.
The studio is actually the entrance to our home, so I very rarely let people come in unless they've made an appointment with me. If you would like to look at what I'm working on, or paintings that are for sale, please feel free to contact me either through this website or instagram. I will serve you tea and cookies.
I honestly love fall the most. I love sweaters and boots and hats. I love a fire in the fireplace. I love all of the colors of the season, but particularly orange. I love Halloween, and I love the croniness that the world takes on. Old lady vibes. I'm for it.
