Like a lot of my art, The Arsonist didn't start out the way she started. I painted this in reaction to the fascist policies being enacted in the US (and honestly, around the world). The fire represents what we need to do to save us all - burn our social paradigms to the ground, and start again. The floor represents not only ICE, the US equivalent of the Gestapo, or a revival of the US's slave catchers, but our collective slippery slope being melted so that we can stand on firm ground again. The woman is all of us - we need to burn down our personal paradigms, too, in order form the collective needed to start again.
